Construction will soon begin on the much-anticipated Booby Alley Urban Renewal Housing Project, following an official groundbreaking ceremony.
The event marked a bittersweet milestone in what has been a long and challenging journey from the project’s initial concept to its current progress.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne expressed the significance of this development, noting that “site one” was once crowded with small chattel houses that posed health and fire risks due to their close proximity.
He described the struggles of residents, who faced muddy conditions and mosquito infestations during heavy rains.
“It was through my intervention as a representative, who, through a grant from R. Allen Stanford, was able to pave all the alleys and bring some temporary relief. But it was always on the cards to address this issue, with so many dilapidated homes in such a small area,” Browne explained.
The prime minister acknowledged the difficulties in securing funds for the project’s condominium-style housing, a goal ultimately achieved through a grant from the People’s Republic of China.
“I can assure the residents of this community and the people of Antigua and Barbuda that my administration is totally committed to empowering the people of Antigua and Barbuda,” he said. “When it comes to the issues of poverty, hunger, housing, educational opportunities, and health care, my government will not relent.”
Browne emphasized the goal of empowering citizens, ensuring that they have access to essential resources regardless of their background.
He also called on future residents to maintain the homes responsibly, so they can be preserved for future generations.
“If they’re dumping garbage indiscriminately within this housing project, again, it’s self-defeating. We have to raise the standard boldly here at Booby Alley, and this project must be a model for others. While we’re beginning here, similar renewals will target other communities,” he stated.

In commending the Administration of the Government of Antigua/Barbuda, And Others, in progressing Thus Far in the provision of Proper Housing for the inhabitants of Booby Alley, I would like to remind US All of the Sequence of Events preceding “getting Us To THIS Stage”…….
Some Persons were NOT Treated fairly and Respectfully …… Many do not know up to NOW …… Exactly WHAT will be REQUIRED of Them when the TIME COMES to be assigned one of THESE Homes being BUILT With a Grant from CHINA …. as A GIFT to the PEOPLE Of ANU/ BAR ……. I understand that Barbuda and Other Areas in Antigua, are included in THIS GIFT from CHINA!!!!!🇨🇳
My HOPE is that on the completion of THIS PROJECT, A Fair-Handed Method will be Employed in Delivering these Houses to the Former Residents .,,,,, And That A Very Limited Rent will be Collected by AN AGENCY To be FORMED by The Residents ….. And that Such Funds will be used for The Education And Commitment of These Residents to the CONTINUOUS Security, Beautification, Upkeep, and Needed Services in THE BOOBY ALLEY Community!!!!
Our People (At EVERY Level) are Capable of Learning And Improving In Life when PROVIDED with the Necessary Resources, Motivation, and Respect!!!
When provided with THESE above-mentioned RESOURCES THE NEW BOOBY ALLEY Residents WILL Outshine Any Other Neighborhood in ANU/BAR!!! Unity & Cooperation are PARAMOUNT!!

He finally remove his own people from their land to give to the Chinese to develop. Those who do not care for our people because of our skin color. These people has no tolerance for people of color. Our government think that these people care for them but they laught at us ɓecause we are nothing but fools.
The prime minister made a controversial decision to relocate the residents of bobby alley,a place they had called home for many years.This move seemed to disregard the communities comfort and sense of belonging.The area was then handed to the Chinese development company for modernization and redevelopment.Many residents felt displaced and frustrated,voicing concerns over the lost of their familiar surroundings and the impact this would have on their lives.The decision sparked to debate about the development priorities,community rights, and the importance of consulting residents in significant changes.What is there exactly to celebrate
