Antigua Masonry Products Workers Return to Industrial Court

Workers from Antigua Masonry Products (AMP) are set to appear before the Industrial Court next week, continuing a labor dispute that has been ongoing since July 2024.

The conflict originated when employees and their union, the Antigua and Barbuda Free Trade Union (ABFTU), alleged that the company was deliberately delaying negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement.

The tensions escalated on September 2, when workers staged a picket line, prompting AMP to file a case with the Industrial Court, which effectively halted the strike action.

Initially, the court scheduled a case management hearing, but AMP withdrew its claim. This prompted the workers to initiate their own court proceedings, which were originally set for early October but were unexpectedly vacated without explanation.

ABFTU President Samuel James confirmed that the matter is now scheduled for case management on December 16, marking the latest development in this prolonged labordispute.
