Grenada’s Minister of Tourism Lennox Andrews

Grenada’s Minister of Tourism Lennox Andrews says his government is looking to Africa as a new source market for the tourism industry.

He said the government will be in talks with whichever airline that is available, to negotiate direct flights to Grenada.

Andrews, in an interview with Loop News, “As Grenadians, we took part in the liberation of South Africa, we supported Mandela and the ANC and we always welcomed ANC supporters in Grenada. There are many Grenadians who went to Africa to study and it is said that Grenada is the only country in the Caribbean where a plane can take off in Africa and land direct,”.

He said the latest decision is also part of a decision by CARICOM to look for ways to strengthen ties with Africa and many Caribbean countries, after having signed an agreement with Afribank to increase trade and other relations.

He said Grenada will also be looking to new markets in India and the Middle East.
