Nurses agitate for uniform allowance one year overdue

President of the Antigua and Barbuda Nurses Association Soria Dupie-Winston said she will be paying a visit to the Treasury Department this morning to get further details on the delay in payment of uniform allowances for nurses in Antigua and Barbuda.

Dupie-Winston says she has been inundated with calls from her members that they have not received their unfirm allowance since last year

“Uniform allowance has not been paid for last year.  It’s customary that it is paid in the first quarter of the year however, for the past four or so years it’s been paid in April or even May.  Now May is coming to an end and there is no word as it relates to what is happening.  The treasury phone rings unendingly without an answer.  And yet still they want to have amicable negotiations,” one nurse said

The Nurses say they are fed up “with this kind of treatment.  It’s like you’re begging for what is rightfully yours”

Dupie-Winston said she has tried without success to contact the Treasury Department by telephone. She said she will personally speak with the Accountant General on Today

According to these healthcare workers, the uniforms allowance has not been paid for those who are stationed at the Fiennes Institute, Clarevue, various community Clinics, and the Care Project.
