Skywatchers in Antigua and Barbuda and several parts of the world will enjoy a vivid and shining beacon in the sky tonight; the second full supermoon of 2023.
It will be one of the biggest and brightest moons so far this year and according to astrologers, there will be two supermoons in August, one tonight and another on August 30.
A supermoon occurs when the moon’s orbit is closer to the Earth than usual, making the moon appear bigger and brighter than normal
According to The Old Farmer’s Almanac, during a supermoon, the disk size of the moon is up to eight percent bigger and will shine up to 16 percent brighter than an average full moon,
Tonight, the moon will be just 222,159 miles away from the Earth. On average it is 238,855 miles away.
On August, 30, it will even be closer at merely 222,043 miles away.
The last time there were two full supermoons in a month was back in 2018.
The next time this phenomenon will occur is in 2032.
