We all need a break every now and then. Taking time off is essential to your mental and physical health as well as your career. A short vacation can recharge your batteries and make you more productive afterward. In today’s day and age, there are many vacation spots. So many, in fact, that it can be difficult to choose the perfect destination. Wondering where to go to? Well, a trip to Antigua and Barbuda is a great idea!

Antigua and Barbuda

Antigua and Barbuda is a country that consists of two main islands (Antigua and Barbuda) and several smaller ones. All the islands forming the country are part of the Leeward Islands in the Lesser Antilles archipelago. Antigua has a rich colonial history, with sugar plantations, forts and Georgian-style government buildings that now serve as museums. Barbuda, which lies just north of Antigua, is an uninhabited paradise of pink sand beaches, frigate birds and nature reserves.

The country is located between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Its capital is St. John’s found on Antigua island. The official language of the inhabitants is English because the country was a British colony for over 300 years before attaining independence on November 1st 1981. According to World Population Review, Antigua and Barbuda has a population of 99,321 as of 30th March 2022.

With its tropical climate, numerous tourist attraction sites and world-class restaurants, the country is definitely a must-see destination. Additionally, as a country, Antigua and Barbuda has one more trick up its sleeves: it has 365 beaches – one for every day of the year. Consequently, the country gained the name ‘Land of 365 beaches’.

It is not surprising that tourism is its main source of foreign exchange. During an interview with the Borgen Project, Ambassador Dario Item mentioned over seventy percent of Antigua and Barbuda’s GDP can be attributed to tourism. Antigua and Barbuda became the latest member of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) on 1st January 2022 with Ambassador Dario Item as its permanent representative.

Ambassador Dario Item is the country’s ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain and the Principalities of Monaco and Liechtenstein.
