Bahamian man found guilty of raping daughter

A 48-year-old businessman in the Bahamas has been convicted of raping his teenage daughter on two occasions, once when she was 15 years old and then at 16.

The incident occurred in 2015 and 2016, but she did not report the incident until 2017 after she secretly recorded him asking her to keep it a secret.

She testified before the eight-member jury that her father sexually violated her shortly after a DNA test proved that he was her father and he was ordered to pay child support.

Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Basil Cumberbatch suggested to the court that resentment toward the child brought on by the order to pay child support is what motivated him to molest her.

The rapist has denied the accusations and instead accused his daughter of falsely accusing him because he didn’t buy her a vehicle.

He will return to court on December 12 for sentencing.
