St. John’s Rural South representative urges calm and acknowledges residents’ longstanding concerns about crime and safety.
Parliamentary Representative for St. John’s Rural South, Daryll Matthew, has condemned the fatal shooting of two members of the Rastafarian community in Creek Side, describing the incident as heartbreaking and troubling.
A man and a woman were fatally shot in the community on Tuesday afternoon. Both were taken to hospital in a privately owned vehicle and later pronounced dead.
Matthew extended condolences to their loved ones and expressed solidarity with residents affected by the killings.
“My thoughts are with them, their loved ones, and the Creek Side community, everyone affected by this painful incident,” he said.
The parliamentary representative acknowledged that residents have been raising concerns about crime and safety for some time.
“I have heard those concerns, and I understand the fear and frustration this latest incident will bring. People deserve to feel safe in their homes and in the community,” Matthew said.
He urged residents to remain calm, support one another and avoid speculation while the authorities investigate.
Matthew also called for compassion and a shared commitment to peace and safety as the community confronts the tragedy.
