AUA students to be airlifted

The two students who were knocked down and almost left for dead on Saturday night could be flown out of the country this week to seek further medical attention.

The American University of Antigua (AUA) students were badly injured in a traffic accident on Friars Hill Road, in the wee hours of the morning.

Priyanjana Das, 19, and Kenneth Mathew, 21 are currently at Sir Lester Bird’s Medical Center Intensive Care Unit.

According to reports, Mathew, a first-semester medical student suffered injuries to his brain while his female companion Das, underwent emergency surgery to amputate her right arm. Mathew is reportedly critical and his parents are making plans to have him flown to Miami.

When the accident happened, the driver fled the scene. He has since turned himself in. No charges have yet been laid against him.
