Case of murder and suicide rocks Guyana

The teaching fraternity in Guyana is mourning the loss of a young teacher who was fatally stabbed multiple times by her former lover.

News from Castries says that Twenty-two-year-old Kelly Charlotte, a teacher of 790 One Mile Extension, Wismar, Linden, Guyana, was stabbed 30 times, allegedly by her ex-boyfriend, who later took his life days after.

A police report out of Guyana stated Charlotte ended an abusive relationship with her boyfriend and later moved in with her sister.

Kelly’s sister reported to the police that the coupled had a child together and the day of the incident, he picked up their child at about 10 am on Sunday and brought him back at about 9:15 pm.

Soon after he returned with the child, the sister heard Charlotte screaming and ran to the front of the house. There, she saw the suspect brutally stabbing her sister.

Charlotte was taken to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Alana Duggin, a close friend, and of the family said the deceased was a quiet, humble and very reserved individual, who did not deserve to die the way she did.

The news has since devastated her father, who remains in denial.

“He is in shock, asking if it is real…he is not taking it easy at all, considering this is his only daughter,” Duggin said.

Her ex-boyfriend fled the crime scene and was found hanging in an abandoned house at Wismar, Linden, Tuesday morning.

Kelly Charlotte was born and raised in Saint Lucia.

Not long after she completed her studies at Corinth Secondary School, she moved to Guyana to live with her mom, who was ill then.
