All salaries and wages paid in full and backpay is underway

All salaries and wages owed to public sector workers for this month will be paid in full today Friday, just in time for the Christmas holidays.

But some people started to receive their payments earlier this week.

This comes on the eve of the ABST reduced weekend and this is good news according to Information Minister Melford Nicholas.

“We did look at the most important matter affecting members of the public sector, which is the payment of salaries and wages. Many people will be delighted at the fact that they will be able to take advantage of the ABST and lower the cost of particular goods,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nicholas confirmed that payment will be made to public workers for back pay by the end of December.

He said however only eligible public sector workers will receive the back pay.

They must have been employed within the service between 2019 and 2021

The government had initially indicated that it was prepared to pay 50% of a month’s wage but Nicholas said 100% will now be paid.
