Earthquake recorded northeast of Antigua and Barbuda

A magnitude 3.5 earthquake was recorded northeast of Antigua and Barbuda early this morning.

The UWI Seismic Research Center (UWI SRC) said it occurred around 4:26 am local time at a depth of 6.6 km.

According to the Automatic Earthquake Location from the UWI Seismic Research Center, the quake struck:

132km NE of Saint John’s, Antigua & Barbuda

Over the past couple days, the UWI Seismic Research Center also posted several earthquake notifications near Antigua and Barbuda ranging in different magnitudes.

UWI SRC noted that that due to the upgrade in its alert level systems, more earthquakes are being posted as the threshold has moved to magnitude 3.5.

It said this does not mean that seismicity in the region has increased.

Several tremors have been recorded near the twin island state over the past few days.
