Football giant Lionel Messi has again won another award for the year 2022 just days after winning the World Cup in Qatar.
The Paris Saint Germain starman was chosen as the male athlete of the year by the International Sports Press Association America (AIPS). Venezuelan runner Yulimar Rojas was selected as the best female athlete for 2022.
Messi has had a fantastic season in 2022–2023 so far, having made significant contributions as Argentina won the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar earlier this month.
Messi, who registered seven goals and three assists in the tournament, was named Player of the Tournament and went home with the FIFA Golden Ball.
For PSG, the 35-year-old has also been putting in a strong performance, scoring 12 goals and providing 14 assists in 19 games across all competitions.
Messi has now won the award 3 times.
On this occasion, he did it ahead of Colombian skater Brayan Carreno and Brazilian player Richarlison.
Eight Ballon d’Or for Messi?
Fans on social media predict Messi will win the Ballon d’Or in 2023 based on his current performance, but it will ultimately come down to two individuals. Lionel Messi and on-fire fellow teammate Kylian Mbappe, who won the Golden Boot at the World Cup, are arguably two of the best players in the world right now.
