The Fire Brigade had a busy day recently attending to two major fires just hours apart.

On Sunday, a crew from the Johnsons Point Fire Station responded to a house fire in Urlings

Public Relations Officer of the Fire Department Lester Bagot said on arrival, the crew met 40 feet x 26 feet two-story wooden and concrete abandoned structure fully engulfed in flames. The crew got into action to extinguish the fire.

“The structure was completely destroyed and a nearby bathroom structure was partially burnt. The Fire crew was assisted by Hugh Christian Water Trucking. No information was obtained as to the ownership of the abandoned structure. The cause of the fire is under investigation,” he said

Hugh Christian Water Trucking was thanked for their continued support during firefighting operations.

Meanwhile, on that same day, fire officials from the St. John’s Fire Station responded to a shop fire on Hatton Main Road.

Bagot said on arrival the crew met a wooden and galvanizes structure engulfed in flames. The crew extinguish the fire.

“Information received from the owner Shashie Galillan is that the 15 feet x 20 feet structure was used as a grocery shop named Hatton Road Superette. He further stated that he secured his business place and went to run errands and upon his return saw the building on fire,” he said

The contents including a fridge, a deep fridge, a washing machine, and groceries along with the structure were destroyed by the fire.

The spouting of a nearby house belonging to Rosa Symister was damaged by the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
