Candlelight vigil on Thursday for dead Cameroonians

10 April 2023 - 17:46

The religious community, concerned citizens and residents will hold a candlelight vigil for Cameroonians who perished in the boat accident off the coast of St Kitts on Tuesday, March 28th.

The vigil will be held according to the organizers to honor those confirmed dead and those who were declared dead but have never been found.

The vigil will begin at the multi-purpose center at 6 pm and residents and Cameroonians still living here are asked to attend.

The Cameroonians left Antigua on the La Belle Michelle, a French vessel. The boat which was captained by an Antiguan capsized in the middle of the Atlantic, about 12 nautical miles off the coast of St Kitts.

Half of those on the boat were rescued by a luxury yacht named Genevieve. About 14 people have not been found. The search was called off three days after the incident. All missing Cameroonians may have died.

The surviving Cameroonians and two Antiguans are in St Kitts and Nevis. They are expected to return to the twin island state soon.
