Police investigate alleged drowning at Sandals Grande Antigua

Roy Vicich died at Sandals Grande Resort on Sunday

A 64-year-old US citizen died at Sandals Grand Antigua Resort on Sunday.

The man from Alabama was a guest at the hotel. He reportedly drowned in a pool at the resort.

According to police reports, when they arrived at the scene, they found the body of Roy Vicich laying lifeless next to the Mediterranean Swimming Pool

The hotel Doctor told lawmen that the guest was at the bar inside the said pool at about 6pm when he became unresponsive. CPR was administered.

EMT officials also tried to resuscitate Vicich but to no avail. He was later pronounced dead and his body was moved to the Barnes Funeral Home.

The hotel doctor informed authorities that the deceased suffered from, Hypertension, Diabetes, and kidney disease.

The Coroner and US consulate representative in Antigua were informed.

Police say one Gold Wedding Ring was removed from the deceased and handed over to Joanne Vicich, wife of the deceased.

On April 22, Vicich wrote on social media “enjoying the first day in paradise”.

Inquiries are ongoing.
