“A cry in the dark”-Massiah slams ABLP’s Labour Day celebrations

Labour Day 2023 ABWU

General Secretary of the Antigua and Barbuda Workers Union David Massiah says the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party’s celebration on May Day or Labour Day is tantamount to hypocrisy.

“Every Labour Day they evoke the spirit of the V.C Bird and proclaim Labour but their record has shown that they have done the opposite,” Massiah said.

Massiah said the government continues to disregard the working class in Antigua and Barbuda and on Labour Day “they would come and cry but that’s a cry in the dark because there is no effort by the government to demonstrate its willingness to support the workers,” Massiah said

He also accused the government of politically aligning workers to stand up for their rights.

“This is why we are asking them to come out and stand up regardless of their political affiliation…we continue to hold the flag high,” Massiah said.
