The Acting Commissioner of Police Everton Jeffers has announced plans to form a specialized team dedicated to investigating missing persons cases, as the country continues to record a high number of disappearances.
“Earlier, I met with my senior executive and one of the things that we discussed was having a team solely responsible for missing persons,” Commissioner Jeffers stated.
The new initiative represents a strategic shift in how authorities handle these increasingly concerning cases.
The team will conduct comprehensive reviews of all missing persons cases from previous years and will maintain consistent communication with affected families. According to Jeffers, the specialized unit will be responsible for “contacting the families, following leads because you know leads comes in at different times.”
This structured approach creates a clear division of responsibilities between the analytical team and field officers. “The people on the field will do the work. What they [the specialized team] will do is to explain their findings, information they receive to the men on the field and they will go out and do the work,” explained Commissioner Jeffers.
The Acting Commissioner emphasized the importance of community cooperation in resolving these cases, noting the close-knit nature of the society. “We’re living in a small society and someone must have seen or know something about what is going on,” he said, suggesting that information crucial to solving these cases likely exists within the community.
