Press statement

Resident British Commissioner to Antigua and Barbuda Ms Lindsy Thompson, hosted local journalists for a ‘Media Rap Session’ yesterday, during which, the British High Commission (BHC) commemorated the work of media professionals across the world.

Celebrated every 3rd of May, UNESCO has designated this year’s theme for the Day to be “Shaping a Future of Rights: Freedom of Expression as a Driver for all other Human Rights”.

It was a pleasure to hear from Antigua and Barbuda’s journalists, including representatives’ views on how they use their freedom of expression to shed light on the importance of human rights for all.

We thank Orville Williams, Elesha George, Ercil Charles Jr. and Kieron Murdoch for attending the BHC’s Medica Rap Session.

The British High Commission will continue to celebrate the vital role of the media and promote the work of local journalists protecting media freedom, and freedom of opinion and expression both in the twin-island state and across the world.

A special thanks to communications consultant and veteran media professional Senator Shawn Nicholas for facilitating the discussion.
