Yachting season ends with a grand affair at Dock Yard

The Yachting season came to a grand close on Sunday with an afternoon of fun and frolic at The UNESCO World Heritage site, Nelson’s Dockyard National Park.

Patrons were entertained and treated with games and competitions including, Tug – O – War, and the Beating of the Retreat, led by the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda.

The organizers say a Model Boat Racing and Display competition was one of the signature events of the day

“The dedication, craftsmanship and skill of the model boat builders and racers were quite the spectacles with a competition dubbed, the Model Boat Regatta. Copping the top prize in the display and craftsmanship competition was Model Boat Quarantine, owned by Bear Wynne. 2ndplace Numbers, owned by Walter Smith and 3rd place Sunshine, owned by Vernon “Hambone” Harrigan,” the organisers said in a press statement.

Parks Commissioner Ann Marie Martin said the aim was to bring everyone together to celebrate and experience the yachting season.

“Embracing our people and our culture, from the food to the vendors, to the activities, was a huge priority for the team and we are grateful for everyone who came out to support Dockyard Day 2023. The work continues as we enter the off – the season of the sector, where we will work to maintain and enhance the facilities of National Park and prepare for the 2023/2024 yachting season,” she said.
