Guyanese nationals killed in an accident in Brazil

27 May 2023 - 17:45

Two vehicular accidents in Brazil have claimed the lives of three Guyanese.

They have been identified as 45-year-old Carmichael Joseph, a businessman from Lethem, Region Nine; hisson Lindomar Santos, 20, and Juanita Honorio, a health worker from Tiger Pond Village, Rupununi.

The Guyanese nationals were traveling along the Boa Vista Highway when their 4×4 pick-up truck collided with a lorry. The trio was pronounced dead at the scene, according to reports.

“I knew Junnita from the dorms…we grew up in the same dorms. She finished school and after that, I never saw her back until last year when she was doing the community health worker program . For her graduation, I can recall her teachers and peers were saying she endured it all and despite all that she was going through…she still managed to finish successfully,” one colleague wrote about Honorio.

“I was so proud of you my dear. You were only trying to reach your goals but oh dam life you had other plans for her . Sleep in peace Junnita Honorio”, another wrote on social media.

In a statement, the hospital said: “Junnita Honorio was an exceptional healthcare professional whose passion for patient care and unwavering commitment to her profession were truly inspiring. Junnita’s invaluable contributions to our healthcare facilities will be remembered with deep gratitude.”

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to Junnita’s family and loved ones during this unimaginably difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you navigate this profound loss. Please know that the entire Health Services of Region 9 stands ready to offer support, comfort, and assistance in any way we can.”

“We will forever cherish her contributions and the positive impact she had on the lives she touched. Junnita will be dearly missed, but her spirit will live on in the memories we shared and the compassionate care we continue to provide,” the hospital added.
