Flooding and a lack of basic necessities have forced the government to shut down the Clare Hall Clinic temporarily
On Monday and Tuesday, nurses withheld their duties, saying that they are unable to work in such poor conditions and that their health was at risk
A slippery floor, exposed electrical switches, and a leaking roof are among the issues that the nurses cited this week, that is preventing them from performing their regular duties at the health center
After a meeting between the authorities, a decision was taken to shut down the clinic and relocate nurses to other health districts
The Clare Hall Clinic is but just one such health facility that has been plagued with infrastructural issues
The Gray’s Farm and Johnson’s Point Clinics for example were both hit with flooding recently due to leaking roofs and other infrastructure issues.
The government has been working towards upgrading the clinics around the island and in some cases building new ones
