Former US President Donald Trump

Donald Trump, the Former President of the US has been indicted.

The news broke tonight that the 76-year-old was impeached over his handling of classified documents after he left the White House.

The BBC said Trump faces seven charges including unauthorized retention of classified files but further details are unclear.

This is the second indictment that former president Trump is facing and the first-ever federal indictment of a former president.

Trump  is campaigning to make a stunning return to the White House in 2024.

Maintaining his innocence, Trump said  “I never thought it possible that such a thing could happen to a former President of the United States. This is indeed a dark day for the United States of America. We are a country in serious and rapid decline, but together we will Make America Great Again,” Trump who is expected to appear in court Tuesday said

An indictment enables the prosecution of a suspect for offenses they are charged with.

About 11,000 documents were seized last year after the former president Florida resort was searched. Some of the documents were labeled top secret.
