Press Statement

A Liberta man is in police custody after he was arrested in connection with a report of robbery and Larceny in St. Johns.

In two separate incidents on Tuesday, July 11, two females reported that they were assaulted by a man, who stole several items of value and monies from them.

In the first incident, a woman reported that she was walking along Upper Church Street, when a man allegedly robbed her of her handbag containing several valuable items and an undisclosed sum of money. The incident occurred around 5:20 am.

Meanwhile, a woman reported she was sitting on Independence Drive around 6:40 am, when a man grabbed her handbag and ran towards the car park.

Both incidents were reported to the police and a 23-year-old resident of Liberta was apprehended and taken into custody. Several of the items were recovered by the police. Further investigations are ongoing into the incidents.

This is one of numerous arrests made by the police over the past weeks, as the police continue to enforce their new crime-fighting measures leading up to the carnival season and beyond.
