More objections to the process to create a Land Registry on Barbuda.

Warner Barbuda

A second member of the Barbuda Council is rejecting the proposed amendments to the Registered Land Act which is aimed at incorporating Barbuda into the country’s official land registry.

Council Member Fitzroy Warner believes Prime Minister Gaston Browne is “Gerrymandering his way and trying to bulldoze the people of Barbuda and ignoring the Barbuda Council”.

He is also unhappy with the manner in which Land leases are being granted without consulting the Barbudan people.

“Some of these lands are being leased to people without the knowledge of the people and without any due diligence”.

He also stated that some of these very same lands were released to other occupants years ago.

Warner said it was important for him to register his concerns publicly.

Barbudan Member of Parliament Trevor Walker has made clear his objections to the proposed changes which were approved by Parliament last week.

The amendments seek to do away with the decades-old practice of communal land ownership on the sister isle.

It will ensure that landowners in Barbuda can legally own the properties they currently occupy.

Walker also made it known last week that when the government changes he will be working with the United Progressive Party to reverse the decision that was made as it relates to land ownership on Barbuda.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has openly accused members of the council of stymying the progress of development by refusing to accept and support varying projects.

  1. I hope the Barbudans give full support to the government of Antigua and Barbuda 🇦🇬, where development and investment are are concerned.
