El Roi Haiti, a Christian aid organization based in the US, has confirmed that an American nurse and her child who were kidnapped in Haiti on July 27 have been released.

The organization expressed immense joy and gratitude for the safe return of their staff member and friend, Alix Dorsainvil, and her child in a blog post on their website.

They also thanked everyone who prayed for and supported them during the crisis. However, there is no information yet on whether a ransom was paid for their release.

Dorsainvil worked as a nurse at El Roi Haiti’s school, where her husband Sandro serves as the director.

The organization promised to provide updates on their website regarding the nurse’s release.

Meanwhile, the US State Department welcomed the news but refrained from giving details on their condition or the circumstances of their release.

UNICEF, on the other hand, expressed concern over the persistent violence in Haiti, particularly the alarming spike in kidnapping and other crimes.

The organization reported nearly 300 confirmed cases in the first half of 2023, almost the same as the total documented cases in 2022 and almost three times the number in 2021.

UNICEF’s Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, Gary Conille, called the situation shocking and unacceptable.

Last month, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appealed to the UN Security Council and other countries to create the necessary conditions for the deployment of a multinational force in Haiti.
