Destroyer In Anguilla for Regional Calypso Competition

Young Destroyer, known as Leston Jacobs, has recently been crowned Calypso Monarch in Antigua and Barbuda.

He is currently in Anguilla, where he will compete in the Leeward Islands Calypso Competition, representing his home country.

During the competition, young Destroyer will sing two of his most popular songs, Back of de Bus and Defending My Flag.

The Anguilla competition does not require participants to present new material but rather their best songs, giving each contestant a fair chance at winning the title.

Antigua and Barbuda’s Calypso Monarch competition winner has traditionally gone on to participate in the Leeward Islands Calypso Competition. Past winners from Antigua and Barbuda include De Bear, Zacari, Thalia, Ivena, and the late Eddie Mellow.

Young Destroyer’s father, Ogliver Jacobs (also known as Destroyer Senior), is his writer/producer and has expressed his joy at his son’s recent victory.

He believes that Young Destroyer’s previous reputation may have hindered his chances in the past, as people were judging him based on his personal life rather than his performances on stage.

Despite this setback, Young Destroyer has an impressive record as a calypsonian and has won the Junior Calypso crown four times and competitions in Trinidad and Tobago. His most recent win was in the Independence Calypso competition two years ago.
