A Grand Bay man is now remanded into custody at the Dominica State Prison following a charge of murder preferred against him by the police.
Christian Yannick Blanc of Tête Morne Grand Bay is charged with the murder of 31-year-old man Jason Sorhaindo of Delices, who resided at Montin Grand Bay.
According to the report of the police, on August 15, 2023, sometime after 1:00 a.m., the lifeless body of Sorhaindo was found in a yard at Tête Morne with a gunshot wound to the head.
He was officially pronounced dead on the scene by a medical doctor.
Following the police investigation, Blanc was charged with murder and appeared before Chief Magistrate Candia Carrette-George on August 18, 2023, where the charge was read to him.
The accused, who was unrepresented, was not required to enter a plea since murder is an indictable offense expected to be tried at the High Court before a Judge and jury.
On the issue of bail, the Chief Magistrate said, based on the nature of the offence bail is closed to the accused.
The matter was adjourned to November 20, 2023, at the Grand Bay Magistrate Court for the start of the Preliminary Inquiry.
