The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Office has issued a tropical storm warning for Barbuda’s sister isle, while a watch remains in place for Antigua.
This means that storm conditions are possible within 12 hours in the warning area. The update at 11:00 a.m. stated that a tropical storm warning could be issued early this afternoon for Antigua.
Philippe is expected to pass near or just northeast of the northern Leeward Islands tonight, following its current forecast track.
The National Office of Disaster Services (NODS) has advised residents to have preparedness plans in place.
NODS has been in regular contact with its district disaster team of volunteers and has instructed that at least one shelter in Barbuda be opened, while a similar action may be needed in Antigua.
People living in low-lying or flood-prone areas should take necessary precautions and be ready to evacuate if needed.
Regular updates will be shared through local media, and residents should keep monitoring for the latest information.
