On Friday, CARICOM Heads of Government held a meeting to discuss the issue of the border controversy between Venezuela and Guyana.

After careful deliberation, CARICOM issued a statement firmly supporting Guyana’s efforts to resolve its border dispute with Venezuela through the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Additionally, CARICOM called upon Venezuela to respect the conservatory measures established by the ICJ’s recent ruling until a final resolution is reached.

The organization also reaffirmed its commitment to the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace and emphasized the importance of maintaining international law.

CARICOM further urged for the de-escalation of the conflict and encouraged appropriate dialogue between the leaders of Venezuela and Guyana to ensure peaceful coexistence, the application and respect for international law, and the avoidance of the use or threats of force.
