During his contribution to the Budget Debate in Parliament’s Lower House on Tuesday morning, Sports Minister Hon. Daryll Matthew announced that Antigua will be welcoming back a Caribbean Premier League (CPL) franchise in 2024.
The Minister stated that a competition will be launched to determine the name and logo of the franchise. He also expects that the franchise will generate significant revenues for the country through the hosting of matches.
This announcement marks the return of professional cricket to Antigua since the Antigua Hawksbills, the previous CPL franchise, was dissolved in 2014. The return of the franchise is expected to provide a boost to the country’s economy, as it will attract cricket fans from all over the world to the island nation.
The competition to determine the name and logo of the franchise is also expected to engage the local community and create a sense of excitement and anticipation for the upcoming CPL season in 2024.
