Gladys Hodge, a resident of Antigua and Barbuda, recently celebrated her 106th birthday.

She is the oldest centenarian in the country and was born on December 20, 1917.

The Community Development and Citizens’ Engagement Division organized a birthday celebration for her, which was attended by her family, friends, and dignitaries.

Gladys, also known as “Nenen,” is a mother of five children, four sons, and one daughter. Sadly, her daughter passed away when she was only 16 years old.

Gladys’ longevity is a topic of interest for many, and her youngest son, Fitzroy Lake, revealed that her favorite foods are rice, chicken, and soup.

In her younger years, she worked in her garden and as a cleaner. Even at her age, she is still able to get around and do some things for herself.

During the ceremony, Gladys expressed her gratitude to everyone who attended and gave special mention to her children and grandchildren who have been by her side throughout her life.

The event was graced by dignitaries such as Sir Clare Roberts, the Governor General’s Deputy, Colin O’Keiffe, the Permanent Secretary within the Ministry of Health, Wellness, Social Transformation, and the Environment, and Senior Community Development Officer, Devorah Simmons. Other community development field officers within the Community Development and Citizens’ Engagement Division, family, friends, pastors, and members of the Beacon Light Nazarene in Villa also attended the event.
