During the Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday, a new set of regulations was put in place to ensure appropriate management of the Prime Minister’s Scholarship Funds.

The meeting was attended by the head of the PM’s Scholarship Committee, who disclosed that the Gaston Browne administration had spent over EC$23 million on the scholarship program in a single year.

As a result of the meeting, it was decided that the scholarship funds for students attending the UWI Five Islands and UWI Mona would be paid directly to the universities, instead of the students themselves.

Additionally, the Cabinet reaffirmed its policy regarding its employees receiving scholarship funds.

Those who receive their monthly salaries while studying abroad will not be eligible for the scholarship funds.
