Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister, Gaston Browne, has delivered the keynote address at the China-Antigua and Barbuda Trade and Investment Cooperation Forum hosted by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade today in Beijing, China.
During his address, he highlighted ten areas that hold potential for investment, including transportation, agriculture, education, and medical care.
Prime Minister Browne stressed on the importance of expanding cooperation in the shipping industry and attracting related investments from China, given the latter’s status as a big shipping country.
He also acknowledged the competitive edge of China’s electric vehicles in terms of price and quality, expressing hopes to expand exports to Antigua and Barbuda.
He emphasized the need to reduce intermediate links to enhance price competitiveness and benefit the people of the island. The Prime Minister welcomed Chinese investors to invest in Antigua and Barbuda and Chinese tourists to explore the island lifestyle.
He revealed that the country is negotiating with relevant countries to increase direct flights and provide more international tourists with more direct flight routes.
He praised China for its development achievements and its contributions to the United Nations’ 2030 goals, stating that China’s foreign policy of equality for all countries, irrespective of their size or status, is a model for cooperation between large and small countries.
Antigua and Barbuda has enjoyed a fruitful partnership with China over the years and views China as an important international partner. Recently, China and Antigua and Barbuda celebrated the 41st anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
