The President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, recently met with Prime Minister Gaston Browne, at the Great Hall of the People.
During the meeting, President Xi expressed his happiness in seeing Prime Minister Browne after ten years and praised him as a true friend of the Chinese people.
In he acknowledged the Prime Minister’s efforts in strengthening the relations between the two countries and thanked him for adhering to the One-China principle and supporting China on issues related to their shared core interests and major concerns.
President Xi also expressed his government’s willingness to further enhance the strategic alignment with Antigua and Barbuda in order to raise the relations to a new level, which will bring greater benefits to both countries.
The Prime Minister, on his part, lauded President Xi’s leadership and thanked China for its role in providing assistance to developing nations like Antigua and Barbuda.
He also commended President Xi’s philosophy of ensuring shared global prosperity and peace and urged other developed nations to follow China’s lead in this regard.
The meeting was also marked by the signing of several MOUs between the two countries’ officials, including Foreign Minister E. P. Chet Greene and Health Minister the Hon. Molwyn Joseph. The MOUs aim to promote closer cooperation between the two countries in the areas of health, education, and infrastructural development.
