President Xi meets with Antigua and Barbuda PM Gaston Browne in Beijing

Chinese President Xi Jinping has met with Prime Minister Gaston Browne, who is currently on a week-long visit to China, which started on Monday

On Wednesday, Browne visited the Monument to the People’s Heroes in Tiananmen Square and laid a wreath there.

On Wednesday, Browne laid a wreath at the Monument to the People’s Heroes in Tiananmen Square in Beijing.

This monument was created to honor those who sacrificed their lives for national independence and freedom.

During his trip, Browne is scheduled to hold talks and meet with several top Chinese officials. Moreover, he will attend a signing ceremony of cooperation documents.

He has stated that promoting trade and economic ties is one of his main priorities, and he has called for more people-to-people exchanges and intensified coordination.

The trade volume between Antigua and Barbuda and China reached US$162 million, a year-on-year increase of 72.9 percent.

China’s imports from Antigua and Barbuda increased by over four times, which reflects the strong vitality of the economic and trade cooperation between the two sides.

Browne also mentioned that China-Antigua and Barbuda ties serve as a great example of collaboration between small and large countries.

He said that as this year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties, Antigua and Barbuda hopes its friendship with China lasts forever.

Moreover, he expressed willingness to strengthen practical cooperation with China in areas such as infrastructure, economy and trade, agriculture, environmental protection, and water resources. He also affirmed his country’s adherence to the one-China principle, which is a solid cornerstone of bilateral relations and will never change.”
