A man was caught stealing seven bunches of coconuts last month and now has to pay a fine to the court and also compensate the victim.
Sometime between November 14 and 25, 20-year-old Diandre Gittens of All Saints trespassed on the property of Marlon Yorks and stolen seven bunches of coconuts valued at $525.
Gittens appeared in the All Saints Magistrate’s Court earlier this week to answer to the two offences.
He admitted to Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel that he indeed committed the crimes.
As a consequence, the Magistrate imposed a fine of $700 for praedial larceny, payable within three months.
In default, Gittens could face a 14-day sentence in His Majesty’s Prison.
Additionally, Gittens was ordered to compensate Marlon Yorks with a sum of $600 for the coconut theft.
On the charge of Trespassing, he received a reprimand and discharge.
