A man who wounded his wife’s sister and a man in a break in attempt to get to his wife has been sentenced to 10 years and 5 months imprisonment.

According to the facts of the case, on July 14 2022, Shajah Joyce of Villa forcibly entered a house where his estranged wife was temporarily residing.

Inside the house, he confronted his wife, covered her mouth with his hand and instructed her to remain silent. However, in a bid for help, she cried out, drawing the attention of the other two occupants of the residence.

The other two people in the house came to her rescue but a fight ensued, reportedly prompting the defendant to injure the individuals with a knife.

He was sentenced by Justice Ann-Marie Smith this morning to spend just over 1/3 of the maximum sentence (15 years) for two counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The time he spent on remand will be deducted by the prison.
