UWIFIC Welcomes New Principal

New UWI FIC Principal, Prof. C. Justin Robinson is capped by University Chancellor, Robert Bermudez at a ceremony heldt at the SJPC HOR on Saturday

The University of the West Indies, Five Islands Campus, has recently appointed a new Principal, Professor C. Justin Robinson. His appointment has been greeted with enthusiasm by the Antigua and Barbuda government and the local private sector as he takes on the leadership of the renowned institution.

The Induction Ceremony held on Saturday was attended by Education Minister Daryll Matthew, who emphasized the importance of leadership during this critical stage in the life of the university.

He highlighted Professor Robinson’s exceptional experience, passion for education, and vision for the future, which align perfectly with the university’s values.

Minister Matthew praised Professor Robinson’s previous commitment to academic excellence, innovation and inclusivity in his previous role, and his dedication to cultivating a supportive learning environment that fosters a sense of community.

He believes that under Professor Robinson’s guidance, the university can anticipate exciting new developments and initiatives that will enhance the educational experience, including the adoption of new technologies, expanding research opportunities, and fostering collaboration across different disciplines.

Martin Cave, the Executive Director of the Antigua and Barbuda Chamber of Commerce and Industry, believes that Professor Robinson’s ability to combine academia with business bodes well for the university.

He stated that universities are the apex of the pursuit of knowledge, and businesses are responsible for using that knowledge to contribute to society.

Professor Robinson’s experience in academia and knowledge of business allows him to provide the necessary training to businesses that require well-trained personnel.

Aziz Hadeed, the Campus Council chairman, echoed the same sentiments and expressed his confidence in the future of UWI FIC under Professor Robinson’s leadership.

​He stated that leadership in education requires a unique blend of vision, compassion, and the ability to motivate and inspire others, and Professor Robinson embodies these qualities.

He has proven himself to be a leader dedicated to the growth and success of the institution.
