The Ministry of Health has recently disclosed important details regarding the number of patients who receive treatment at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre and the reasons for their visit.

For the first time ever, these insights have been made available to the public, shedding light on the frequency of use and effectiveness of the center’s services.

During a report presented to Cabinet on Wednesday, the Health Minister shared that 12,749 patients underwent radiology procedures in 2023.

Additionally, 15,908 patients were referred to the hospital by private doctors, while 3,136 patients were admitted to the wards.

It was also revealed that over 1000 patients received 120,000 sessions of dialysis, a life-saving treatment for those whose kidneys have failed.

Despite recent criticism, the Health Minister, Sir Molwyn Joseph, emphasized that the SLBMC serves numerous patients satisfactorily each year.

He asserted that attempts to portray the institution as a failure are highly inaccurate.

In addition to these updates, the Emergency Room (E.R.) is undergoing expansion to accommodate patients who require urgent but not necessarily emergency care.

Nurses and doctors are being trained to provide warm, gentle, and professional services to engage patients as customers who expect exceptional care.
