There are plans for a major tourism development in the area formerly known as Yeptons Beach Club, located near Deep Bay.
The project is being proposed by Qatari-based Leisure World Properties and involves the construction of an upscale resort development with 114 rooms and 20 villas built over the water using stilts.
The estimated cost of the project is around US$300 million, and the proposal was presented to the Cabinet on Wednesday.
The group is led by Ramez Al-Khayyat, a Syrian businessman based in Doha, who is the President and GCEO of Power International Holding (PIH), a Qatari-based conglomerate that operates across various sectors.
The property at Yeptons was previously earmarked for a luxury resort development carrying the Marriot brand, but that project never materialized. Leisure World Properties has reportedly since purchased the property.
Last week, PIH held the groundbreaking ceremony of Georgetown Seafront Resort and Convention Center, a premium development by its subsidiary Assets Group, which is the hospitality development and management arm.
The ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including the President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, and the Minister of Tourism, Industry, and Commerce, Oneidge Waldron.
The Georgetown Resort and Convention Center is expected to open to the public in 2026 and is aimed at transforming Guyana’s tourism and hospitality landscape, featuring state-of-the-art premium facilities and luxury standards.
