The National Parks Authority of Antigua and Barbuda is issuing a call to action to all individuals and communities to take a more active role in preserving the natural environment of the country.

The Authority has raised concerns over the recent increase in illegal dumping in the Cobbs Cross and Falmouth Harbour areas, which poses a significant threat to the hard-won progress made by the Authority through months of dedicated clean-up efforts.

Recognizing the importance of maintaining a pristine environment and the role of national pride in its preservation, the National Parks Authority launched a comprehensive clean-up campaign that has been ongoing for several months.

This initiative aims not only to enhance the beauty of the surroundings but also to instill a sense of collective responsibility among residents towards the natural environment.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, E. P Chet Greene, who is also the parliamentary representative for St. Paul with direct responsibility for the National Parks Authority, emphasized the significance of environmental stewardship.

He stated that preserving and respecting the environment is a shared national endeavor and that the designation of a UNESCO World Heritage site highlights the global importance of preservation efforts across the National Park.

He also stressed the importance of cultivating a culture of environmental care and national pride in the collective consciousness of the community.

The National Parks Authority urges all residents to play an active role in maintaining cleanliness and promptly report any instances of illegal dumping.

Residents are also urged to follow the designated garbage collection schedule diligently, ensuring timely disposal on the allocated days and times.

By fostering a culture of environmental responsibility and civic engagement, we can safeguard our island’s natural treasures for generations to come.
