Pearl Quinn-Williams drops out of leadership race

12 March 2024 - 09:31

Pearl Quinn-Williams the United Progressive Party’s caretaker for St John’s Rural North, has withdrawn from the leadership race.

Quinn revealed that she did not receive the support of the branch, leading to her decision to abort her bid.

In a message to party members, she expressed her gratitude to those who supported her.

Despite her withdrawal, Quinn-Williams assured her supporters that she would support whoever emerged as the leader.

Richard Lewis secured the nomination from the Rural North branch, solidifying his position as a frontrunner in the UPP leadership race.

With Quinn’s withdrawal, the competition for the UPP leadership is now primarily between Lewis and Jamale Pringle.

Quinn’s endorsement of the eventual leader adds a new dynamic to the race, as the decision of her supporters could potentially sway the outcome of the contest.

All eyes will be on Lewis and Pringle as they vie for the support of party members and delegates in the upcoming UPP convention.

On Sunday, a letter was signed by several MPs and other candidates who contested the last general elections, endorsing Richard Lewis to lead the United Progressive Party.

However, Harold Lovell, another candidate for the position of Political Leader, said he had not received any communication from his fellow MPs or the party’s election candidates about their backing of Lewis.

Despite this, Pringle expressed his commitment to the Party and the confidence of its Members and Supporters.

He stated that the good of the United Progressive Party comes ahead of his personal feelings and ambitions, as demonstrated in 2009 and again in 2014, and that he will continue to do so.

Meanwhile, he also expressed his commitment to defending the UPP and its supporters against the tactics of the Antigua Barbuda Labour Party.

    • Gaston is worse finance and prime minister Antigua and Barbuda ever have. Gaston administration collect more revenue than any other government and look at the state of the country infrastructure, health system including the hospital, agriculture, and education. That you need to focus on the now not the then. ABLP is in it third term in office and all the failed projects promised to the people of Antigua especially. If you want to talk about then failure of Harold era during UPP in government, then me how many failed projects the UPP had compares to Gaston ABLP? Let do some comparisons or let focus on the now. Bring on the proofs!!
