Murder accused Kelly Friday has been found guilty of manslaughter in relation to the killing of his uncle, Selwyn Mannix.

The incident, which occurred on September 11, 2021, at Point Wharf, has been at the center of a trial where Friday maintained his innocence, claiming self-defense..

The trial had seen defense attorneys Wendel Alexander and Wayne Marsh arguing for Friday’s acquittal.

According to evidence presented in the case, Friday and his uncle got into an altercation because the accused owed him $50.

Mannix confronted him and used a wattle stick about 7 feet long to beat him.

Friday retaliated by stabbing his uncle 6 times about his body.

In the end Friday had a swollen head, injury to his thigh and a broken hand.

Meanwhile, Mannix had stab wounds to his chest, abdomen, back, thigh, and hand and died because one of the wounds caused a cardiac tamponade.

With the verdict now delivered, Friday is awaiting sentencing on April 19
