The upcoming Antigua and Barbuda International Kite Festival, with a three-day lineup of activities, is set to elevate the excitement of the holiday weekend.
Now in its 19th year, the festival promises an expanded experience with diverse kite-flying events catering to adults and children.
Kicking off on March 28, the festivities will commence with indoor kite flying at the Multipurpose Cultural Center from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., offering participants a chance to showcase their skills for a nominal fee of $5.
According to the organizer, Calvin Pilgrim, professional kite flyers from the US will be on hand to provide demonstrations and insights into the art of kite flying.
On March 30th, the excitement continues with “Kites and Cocktails” at Splash Antigua Fort James, where attendees can either join in the kite flying or marvel at the spectacle of LED-lit kites illuminating the night sky. Admission for this event is $40, and it will run from 6pm to 10pm.
The festivities culminate on April 1st with the traditional kite flying celebrations at Devil’s Bridge from 9am to 7pm.
Here, participants and spectators alike will witness the sky adorned with an array of colorful and traditional homemade kites, as people of all ages come together to partake in this beloved Easter Monday tradition.
Residents are urged to join in the fun and immerse themselves in the vibrant display of kites from various countries, adding an international flavor to the festivities.
With its blend of entertainment, workshops, and kite-flying contests, the festival offers a delightful experience for the whole family, epitomizing the spirit of Caribbean celebration.
