The government of Antigua and Barbuda has expressed its unwavering commitment to revive the operations of LIAT 2020, and aims to have the airline back in the air by next month.
Information Minister, Melford Nicholas, confirmed in a recent briefing that all indications suggest that this timeline will be met.
According to the minister, the administrator has approved the lease for the aircraft, and the necessary funds have already been allocated for the purchase.
The Caribbean Development Bank is currently awaiting a decision from the Administrator and the court on how to proceed with the sale.
Based on the minister’s statement, it appears that everything is on course for the timeline that was initially announced.
As part of the venture to revive LIAT 2020, the government is partnering with Air Peace, Nigeria’s largest airline.
Air Peace has acquired a majority stake in LIAT 2020 Limited, and the intent is to expand the company’s offering to enable it to operate similarly to LIAT 1974 Limited, which experienced a significant downturn during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Overall, the government of Antigua and Barbuda is optimistic about the prospects of LIAT 2020’s revival, and is working hard to ensure that the airline becomes a viable and sustainable option for travelers in the region once again.
