According to the Ministry of Health and Social Services, there has been a notable uptick in confirmed cases of the highly contagious virus over the past seven days.

Although the exact number of cases has not been revealed, the ministry has urged islanders to exercise caution and stay away from anyone showing signs of infection, such as fever, flu-like symptoms, fatigue, and an itchy rash of blister-like bumps covering the body.

Chickenpox is caused by the Varicella-Zoster virus and is typically a mild illness in healthy children and adults, with most people recovering within two weeks.

However, certain populations, such as infants, pregnant women, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems, are at risk of severe complications, including bacterial infections of the skin, lung and brain infections, bleeding problems, bloodstream infections, and dehydration.

The ministry has advised islanders to maintain good hygiene practices, such as washing hands frequently, avoiding close contact with infected individuals, and covering the mouth and nose while coughing or sneezing.

Additionally, anyone who suspects they have contracted chickenpox or is displaying symptoms should seek medical attention immediately to prevent further spread of the virus.
