Press Statement

The Development Control Authority wishes to clarify claims made in a recent media report concerning restrictive covenants.

The National Housing and Urban Renewal Company is the vendor for the lands on which the residential property is being erected.

The media practitioner referenced item six on the list of restrictive covenants – “no building other than a single dwelling house either with or without garages and necessary outbuildings is to be erected upon the Lot.”

However, item six restricts apartments and commercial buildings, not a single unit in a residential area.

Item seven, the appropriate section, reads – “no dwelling house or any extension thereof shall be constructed except as a single storey building unless the topography can reasonably allow, the decision of the vendor being final.”

Furthermore, the front of the building is not depicted in the video and is well within the prescribed boundary setback.

Please be advised accordingly.

  2. I can continue building my property now DCA finally published this Restrictive Covenant. If it can apply to a DCA staff, it can also apply to me and everyone who are building. It is good when politicians can find the law to suit their friends and colleagues but not for the ordinary citizens.
