A successful Singapore-based Chinese investment group with a keen interest in Antigua and Barbuda was recently invited to Cabinet.
The company has been generating a monthly revenue of $100 Million US and is looking to establish an operating base in the Caribbean.
During the meeting, the principal of the group shared insights on how AI (Artificial Intelligence) is poised to be the next big change in technological innovation, as it will provide greater communication power in the future.
Interestingly, the firm assembles electronic vehicles in Mexico for export to North and South America, which led Cabinet members to inquire whether Antigua could be considered for vehicle manufacturing.
After receiving assurances of sufficient energy production, the principal expressed that the prospect of such manufacturing in Antigua looks promising.
The Chinese investment group is scheduled to follow up with several Cabinet members whose portfolios align with their interests.
Their potential investment in Antigua and Barbuda could bring economic growth to the twin-island state and create job opportunities for local residents.
I hope we look beyond the dollars and understand that with vehicle manufacturing, comes a huge amount of pollution and specific waste accumulation/disposal. I hope we’re taking all of this into consideration before we ink any deal! There is a high incidence/prevalence of cancer — particularly breast and prostate — here in Antigua. We need to put the safety and well-being of our people first!!
They were interested only after they “were assured sufficient energy production” and God only know what other perks!! But the energy production is what gets me!!!Hahahaha guess we will all live in the dark so that they can assemble cars here
