The Hannah Thomas Hospital in Barbuda is being expanded to include a Pediatric Ward.

Head of the Pediatric Department at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre Dr Shivon Bell Jarvis made the disclosure this week.

Dr. Belle Jarvis is currently leading a team of medical experts who are conducting specific health screenings in Barbuda.

“I’m so happy that where we’re having the clinic is where the pediatric ward is going to be. the walls are so beautiful and we thank all of the organizations and you’ll hear more of it from the Barbuda administration,” she said.

Additionally, blood testing will soon be provided in Barbuda.

“An additional feature that will be offered later down in this month is that for patients who would’ve ordered lab investigations…the laboratory services will be made available to them later on this month right here at their door”, the medical practitioner said.

The team of experts has been focused on epilepsy and prematurity care as well as general wellness care.

Today, Friday will be dedicated to healthcare workers.

“On day two of our visits we do educational sessions with the staff of the Hannah Thomas Hospital as well as for the emergency medical services staff and other auxiliary staff and so we have a series of trainings for each visit that we’ve had and it is quite useful as they have applied the skills that we have offered and even strengthened during our visits,” the medical practitioner added.

Meanwhile, A team from the Medical Benefits Scheme Nutrition Team is also on the sister isle. The team began its activities on Tuesday April 2 with screening sessions and a workshop.
